The magazine was one of the first counterculture magazines to emerge in NYC during the 1960s. It originally began as a monthly publication, but moved to be published bi-weekly. Its design was inspired by the Dada movement and then progressed towards a more psychedelic appearance. The East Village Other was also an important player in the emergence of the underground comix movement. The magazine ceased publication in March 1972.
