In 1937, Baker renounced her American citizenship to live and work in France.  She is credited as being the first African American female to star in a major motion picture in addition to her notable contribution to the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S.  Her film credits include “La Sirène des tropiques”, “Zouzou”, and “Princesse Tam Tam”.  She died in 1975.
