Born in 1964 in Algeria, Parreno rose to prominence and became known for his diverse work in film, sculpture, drawing and text. Parreno radically redefined the exhibition experience by exploring its possibilities as a coherent “object” rather than as a collection of individual works. His 2013 exhibition “Anywhere, Anywhere Out Of The World” in Paris, exemplified this format when he turned the building into a living evolving organism using sound, image and performance to guide the visitors through his journey. For his most recent exhibition in New York at the Park Avenue Armory, Parreno used almost every part of the Armory building for his purpose. He describes his thinking about art exhibitions as a “space that will unfold into time”.
