His material, encompassing a wide range of social issues including religion, politics, and philosophy was controversial and often steeped in dark comedy. He saw himself as a flame, Shiva The Destroyer, using comedy a weapon to expose truths about our society’s government and politics. Hicks suffered from drug and alcohol abuse and passed away in 1994.
