Njideka Akunyili Crosby
Njideka Akunyili Crosby was born in Enugu, Nigeria in 1983, where she lived until she was sixteen. In 1999, she moved to the US. She received a BA from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 2004, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, and a MFA from Yale in 2011. Her work is informed by both her Nigerian heritage and her Western training in Art History. Working in a combination of collage, image transfers, painting, and drawing, Akunyili Crosby’s work frequently depicts domestic scenes with ambiguous narratives. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
