She moved to Kenya in 1914 with her husband to establish a coffe plantation. She is best known for “Out Of Africa”, an account of her life in Kenya, and “Babette’s Feast”, about a chef who spends her entire 10,000 franc lottery prize to prepare a spectacular gourmet meal. Both of these titles were adapted into highly acclaimed, Academy Award winning motion pictures. She passed away in 1962.
