He attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and moved to New York City after graduating. He worked writing copy in the advertising industry and is credited with the slogan “Raid Kills Bugs Dead”. He soon moved to Oakland and began working for Montgomery Ward’s advertising department. He also became involved with the San Francisco literary scene and was an active participant in Beat culture. He passed away in 1971.
