His edict, “das zielbewußte Schaffen” (goal-oriented creation), influenced his work in political ways as he designed many exhibitions and propaganda for the Soviet Union in the early 20th century. His work in the Suprematist art movement greatly influenced the development of the Bauhaus and Constuctivist movements, and later the field of graphic design. El Lissitzky illustrated Vladimir Mayakovsky’s 1923 book of poems, “For the Voice”. He died in Moscow in 1941.
