Monica Vitti was born Maria Louisa Cecoarelli on November 3, 1931, in Rome. After graduating from Rome’s National Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1953, she began her stage and screen careers. After meeting director Michelangelo Antonioni, she was cast in several of his stage plays and in three feature films, including L’Avventura in 1960. She co-wrote and directed the 1989 film Scandalo Segreto.
