Italian actress Mariangela Melato was born in 1941. After studying at the Milan Theatre Academy, Melato rose to fame due to her performances in stage plays with directors Dario Fo, Luchino Visconti and Luca Ronconi. In 1969, she began her cinematic career with Pupi Avati’s Thomas a Glib Indemoniati. She received great recognition for her work in Lina Wertmüller’s The Seduction of Mimi in 1972 and two years later in Swept Away. After much international success, the actress pursued a career in America, where she had roles during the 1980s in films such as Flash Gordon and So Fine.
