Miles Davis was born on May 26, 1926, in Illinois. He is one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, playing jazz and bebop music. At the age of 18, he moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School but would eventually drop out. In New York City, Davis was free to search out his idols, Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. The 1956 release of The Birth of Cool introduced “cool jazz” to the public. Davis continued to collaborate with various musicians throughout his career, producing Kind of Blue, featuring the First Great Quintet, in 1959.
Davis has won 8 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. He created the soundtrack for the 1958 Louis Malle film, Ascenseur pour l’échafaud.
