Hans Bellmer

Hans Bellmer was a German photographer, sculptor, printmaker, painter and writer. Born in 1902, Bellmer studied engineering before he fled to Paris in 1938. He became involved with the Surrealists and produced drawings and paintings full of erotic variations on the female body. Bellmer is best known for the life-sized pubescent female dolls sculpted in the mid-1930's. Bellmer passed away in 1975.
