				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: left;">Larry Sultan was an American photographer born in New York in 1946. He spent his childhood in the San Fernando Valley of California before attending the University of California, Santa Barbara to study political science. He received a Master&#8217;s in Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute which began his career as a conceptual photographer. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Sultan&#8217;s work is exhibited in museums across the United States and published in numerous titles. He was an Instructor of Photography at his alma mater, the San Francisco Art Institute, from 1978 to 1988. He then taught at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco as Chair of the Photography Department from 1993 to 1999, and as Distinguished Professor of Art from 1989 to 2009 before his death in December of 2009.</p>
