Nancy Holt

Nancy Holt was an American artist who is known for her public sculptures, land art, and installations. She was born in Massachusetts in 1938 and graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Biology. She then moved to New York City and became involved with the Minimalists of the 1960s, such as Richard Serra, Carl Andre, Sol Lewitt, and Eva Hesse. Holt married the land artist Robert Smithson in 1963. Her first work of art was a video collaboration with Richard Serra; this interest in vision carried on into her earthworks, as they involve the act of seeing or tracking positions of the sun, earth, and stars. Holt passed away in 2014 at the age of 75.
