Jusepe de Ribera

Born in 1591, Jusepe de Ribera was a Spanish artist who spent most of his career working in Naples, after moving to Italy around 1611. He was most known for working in the tenebristic manner of Caravaggio. His works were mostly religious in subject and characterized by dramatic lighting conditions. By the 1640s, Ribera had become a successful and wealthy artist and operated a large workshop. He passed away in 1652.
